Originating from the renowned Buffalo Trace Distillery, this bourbon is often celebrated as "Liquid Gold". It represents an exquisite single barrel bourbon, meticulously aged for 8 years.
Crafted specifically for bourbon aficionados, this spirit offers unparalleled smoothness and a sumptuous finish. Utilizing Mash Bill #2, a sour mash comprised of corn, malted barley, and extra rye, it matures gracefully in American White Oak casks. Each bottle is hand-filled from the finest casks, ensuring a superior experience.
The nose reveals an intriguing blend of sweet and sour aromas, featuring notes of bright citrus, cotton candy, cinnamon, honey, and tropical fruit. On the palate, layers of dark fudge, citrus, oak, and heavy cream meld seamlessly with the spiciness of extra rye and a hint of pepper. The finish is both warm and rich, leaving a lasting impression of cinnamon.
Affectionately known as "liquid gold", this bourbon was first produced in 1984 under the expert guidance of Master Distiller Elmer T. Lee at the George T. Stagg Distillery, now Buffalo Trace Distillery. Lee observed that Colonel Albert Bacon Blanton, who headed the distillery from 1921 to 1951, preferred bottles aged in Warehouse H. This unique metal-clad warehouse induced temperature fluctuations, significantly influencing the aging process. The result is a bourbon aged between 6-8 years with a higher rye content, prized for its quality and limited availability.
In 1999, eight distinct horse stoppers were introduced to this iconic bourbon. Each stopper features a letter that, when collected, spell out "B-L-A-N-T-O-N'-S". Displaying various phases of a horse race, these stoppers are a coveted addition to any collection. Despite the rarity of some letters, the distillery ensures an equal number of each is produced annually. Domestically, the bottles are 750 ml, whereas international versions are 700 ml.
