Mezcal has persevered thanks to the perseverance of women throughout history. Despite the Spanish crown's prohibition of Mezcal production in Mexico for nearly a century, local producers in the stunning mountains of Oaxaca defied the ban and continued to craft this spirit. Brave women were among those who sold Mezcal illegally from town to town, risking their lives in the process. La Escondida, meaning "the hidden lady", was born from a local legend to honor these women who have kept the tradition alive. Rich notes of tobacco perfectly complement the flavors of cocoa and vanilla. A touch of salinity highlights the sweet, roasted agave. Whether savored neat or mixed in a cocktail, this spirit exudes an elegant and bold character.
